Mookuthi Amman of Nayanthara and RJ Balaji got released in Disney plus Hotstar on 14th of November. The film’s plot revolves around a small time journalist meeting Mookuthi Amman, a Hindu religious god and makes people realize the truth behind the fake God men and their superstitions. Despite of the mediocre making and predictable screenplay, the film received positive reviews from the people for the core message it carried.
Directed by R.J Balaji and Saravanan, the film featured Nayanthara in the title role, with Balaji, Urvashi, Moulee and Ajay Ghosh in supporting roles. The film was produced by Ishari K. Ganesh under Vels Films International. Critics praised the performance of Oorvashi and the comedy scenes but criticized the uneven direction and screenplay. Now, in a recent interview, RJ Balaji revealed that his movie is a strip from Bollywood blockbuster “PK” and it isn’t worth considering as an “epic”.
“Mookuthi Amman is not an epic and all. It already came in Bollywood as “PK” and we just changed a few. In that film Amir Khan would appear as an “Alien” and we chose to have an “Amman” instead. In that film Anushka Sharma would appear as a female reporter and I acted as a TV reported in “Mookuthi Amman”. One can tell these similarities by just watching the film for the first time” said Balaji and went on to mention about other inspirations.

“As far as the family part is concerned, I took inspiration from my own family. I have four siblings with a younger brother and changed it as three sisters in the film to gain the sympathy of the audience. In the second half, I recreated what they did in the 20 year old hit film “Mudhalvan”. It looked like I played Arjun and he (antagonist of Mookuthi Amman) played Raghuvan and we changed the mindset of public with our interview” Balaji trolled his own film.
When the host said that she never thought of the reporter connect in both the films, Balaji said that he would have been reviewed his film in the same way. Watch the video below :
