World Health Day saw a wonderful event of Health camp and Flash mob with “Health For Al” theme at Chennai. In a joint effort by the Indian Medical Association – Junior Doctors Network, Medical Students Network Tamilnadu State Chapter, Greater Chennai Corporation, Chennai City police, and Chennai Memes, a Non-Communicable Disease Screening Camp and Flashmob were organized on the occasion of World Health Day.
This year marks the 75th anniversary of World Health Day, and the theme is “Health For All.” The celebration began with a Marathon organized in Tambaram at 5 PM, which was flagged off by the state president of the Indian Medical Association Tamilnadu State Branch, Dr. Senthamil Pari, and the President Elect & National Chairman of Junior Doctors Network, Dr. Abul Hasan. Hundreds of young Junior Doctors and Medical Students gathered to emphasize the importance of physical activity.
Later in the evening, hundreds of Junior Doctors participated in the Non-Communicable Screening Camp for the general public in Elliot’s beach, Besant Nagar. The camp was inaugurated by Dr. Senthamil Pari and Dr. Abul Hasan, where BP, Blood Sugar, and Obesity screening were done for the general public. Referral and basic medicines were given to those in need. Speaking to the public, Dr. Pari explained the risk factors of Non-Communicable diseases and the pivotal role played by IMA in prevention and education about NCDs.
Dr. Abul Hasan, President Elect of IMA TNSB and Chairman of IMA JDN HQ, expressed his concerns about the increased morbidity due to diabetes and obesity. Early screening, detection, prevention, control, and management of Non-Communicable diseases like hypertension, diabetes, and leading a healthy lifestyle by avoiding foods that are high in salt, sugar, and fats will help reduce NCD fatality rates in India.
The Flashmob conducted by the medical students was much appreciated by the general public. The event was ended by a Candle Light March by Doctors and Students creating awareness on the theme – “Health for all.” Chennai Memes, as a joint initiator and publisher of the event, helped in spreading the message of the importance of equitable healthcare.
The event was organized by Dr. V. S. Hariharan, Chairman, IMA JDN TN, Dr. Jamuna Rani, Co-Chairman, IMA MSN TN, Dr. Arun Kumar, Convenor, IMA JDN TM, Dr. Raghunandan, Finance Secretary IMA JDN TN, Dr. CT Krishnan, General Secretary, IMA MSN TN, Dr. Charren, Dr. Keshav, Dr. Srudhi, Dr. Shivalinga, and other office bearers of IMA JDN MSN TNSB.
