Popular singer Chinmayi Sripaada has accused veteran Tamil lyricist-poet Vairamuthu by alleging that she was asked to “cooperate” and visit him in a hotel but she refused.

In the wake of #MeToo movement, there are plenty of other women who have accused Vairamuthu on the basis on anonymity. But singer Chinmayi chose to tweet. She has recalled an incident that a concert organiser asked her to “cooperate” and visit Vairamuthu in his hotel room. She said this happened in 2005 or 2006.

In 17 years not one man in the industry across languages Hindi Tamil Telugu Malayalam Kannada Marathi has misbehaved.

Not one man has indecently messaged me or touched me.

My work place is mostly clean save for some bad apples.

I call Vairamuthu (Sir) out alone and I dare.

We sang. We went to Switzerland. We performed.

Everyone left. Only my mother and I were asked to stay back.

The organizer(I dont remember his name) asked me to visit Vairamuthu sir in a hotel in Lucerne.

I asked why. He told me to cooperate. I refused. We demanded to be sent back to India. He said ‘You wont have a career!’

My mother and I both put our foot down, career vendam mannum vendam. Demanded an earlier flight to India and came back.

In the recent press meet for Sandakozhi -2, reporters asked Vishal “why no hero in Tamil Industry raised their voice for Me Too movement ??”

For this question Vishal said “no one ignored the issue, we have decided to form a women’s committee to ensure the safety of women. It should be informed immediately in order to make action against the accused immediately. For instance, in Amala Paul issue  , she informed us instantly where she faced something unsual by a male. we sent people from our committee and been there until the official complaint is registered in Police station.

Likewise Complaints should be made immediately. Chinmayi safe guarded her career at that point of time and frightened seeing his political power it seems. It should be not that way, brave women won’t do that, they will come forward immediately. According to section 201, being silent when a crime happens is also a crime. But I am not insisting that. They should come forward immediately.” the actor said.
