Veteran actor Mohan, while meeting the press reporters recently, responded to a question of a reporter who asked whether he watched director Atlee’s “Raaja Raani”, remake of his blockbuster movie “Mouna Raagam”. The actor who is eyeing for a comeback in the industry, had said that he didn’t watch the film yet and congratulated the makers as the film became a hit.

Atlee is arguably one of the most loved and hated filmmaker of Tamil cinema right now. Being a former assistant of Shankar, Atlee’s way of presenting his films and the castings he choose for the characters are considered as his major qualities. However, the reputed filmmaker is often criticized for replicating the movies of ace filmmaker Manirathnam.

His debut film “Raja Rani” has been widely compared with “Mouna Ragam” a cult classic of Manirathnam. His second film “Theri” was compared with “Chathriyan” which was also written and produced by Manirathnam. His third film “Mersal” was compared with “Aboorva Sagotharargal” a double action film of Kamal Haasan. Important sequences of his latest film “Bigil” was compared with several foreign language films as well.

In “Raja Rani” which was released with the theme “There’s a life after love failure”, the filmmaker used four central characters and casted Nayanthara, Arya, Jai and Nazriya for the roles. The plot revolves around Regina and John who faced a love failure each in the past, getting married without knowing about each other.

The film which was highly appreciated for the casting, performance, making and presentation, became a huge hit at the box office. However, the similarities it had with the cult film of Manirathnam made the filmmaker to become a subject of severe trolls and criticisms.

Recently, when actor Mohan met the press reporters, one of them asked “Recently, your film Mouna Raagam was remade as Raja Rani, have you watched it??” to which the actor replied saying “I haven’t seen the film but it became a super hit. A film will get success only if people likes it, so congratulations”

On the work front, director Atlee is busy directing Bollywood Superstar Shah Rukh Khan in a movie named “Jawan” which is going to have Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara, Yogi Babu as a part of the lead cast.
