For past 5 days, people of Tamilnadu has been worrying and glued with the news channels. They couldn’t even celebrated the Diwali festival wholeheartedly as 2 years old Surjith was trapped in an abandoned bore well. Officials conducting the rescue operations had pronounced the child dead after foul smell began emanating from the borewell on Monday night.

The baby’s death brought to the fore the lack of awareness on sealing unused borewells and public apathy towards taking safety measures. Celebrities and politicians across India are expressing their condolences for the demise of Sujith. From Rajinikanth to Rahul Gandhi, almost everyone took twitter to express their grief on the child’s death.

Actor Vivek who is known for his socially responsible comedy scenes in his movies, also expressed his grief. Meanwhile one of a follower of him posted one of a video clip of the actor from one of his old movies in which the comedian would have explained about the importance of borewells being closed with a iron cap.

In the clip from “Bale Pandya” movie, Vivek who played the role of a foreigner, would ask a government official about the cost made for a child’s death in borewell. After hearing to him, Vivek would ask why can’t they buy a bore cap for 150 Rs.

On seeing this video posted by his follower, Vivek wrote “அன்று சொன்னது கவனம் பெறாமல் போனதால் இன்று இந்த சோகம்.இன்று சொல்வது “மரம் நடுக; குளம் தூர் வாருக.”இதுவும் உதாசீனப் படுத்தப் படக் கூடாது.அரசை குறை சொல்வதை விட்டு விட்டு மக்களின் பொறுப்புணர்வை அதிகப் படுத்த வேண்டும்.”

Sujith Wilson is not the only child to have met with a tragic end after falling into an abandoned borewell as at least 10 other children had died in a similar manner in Tamil Nadu over the past 15 years.
