The nail biting India vs Pakistan ended in the favour of the Rohit Sharma led team after Kohli displayed a quality batting with the help of Hardik Pandya. From losing 4 wickets and scoring just 31 runs in the power play overs, the team managed to get the winning runs in the final ball of the match with so many twist and turns.
Kohli scored 82 runs from 53 balls with 6 sixes and 4 fours. While no one believed the match to be going in favour of the Babar Azam led team, Kohli changed the result single handedly with two back to back sixes in the last two balls of the 19th over.
Kohli who was looking so much emotional after clinching the victory, had no words during the post match presentation while receiving the man of the match award. Talking for the first time after playing the breathtaking innings, Kohli said “It’s a surreal atmosphere, I have no words, no idea how that happened. I am really lost for words. Hardik believed we can do it, if we stayed till the end. When Shaheen bowled from the pavilion end, that’s when we decided to take him down. Haris is their prime bowler, and I hit those two sixes”
“The calculation was simple. Nawaz had one over to bowl, so if I could take Haris down, they would panic. From 28 in 8, it came down to 16 to 6. I tried to stick to my instincts. The first one was back of a hand slower ball (the one over long-on). Standing here I just feel like it was meant to be. ” he further added.
When Ravi Shashthri asked whether it was the best innings of his life, Kohli said “Till today Mohali was my best innings against Australia. Today I will count this one higher. Hardik kept pushing me. The crowd has been phenomenal. You guys (fans) kept backing me and I am grateful for your support”
