Vikram, Tamil cinema’s one of the leading actor’s reply to Anurag Kashyap is trending in internet platforms. 

In a recent media interaction, Anurag Kashyap revealed at the Cannes Film Festival 2023 that he had approached actor Vikram, also known as Kennedy John Victor, for his film titled Kennedy. Kashyap stated that he had written the film with Vikram in mind and had tried reaching out to him but received no response. This revelation sparked curiosity and disappointment among Twitter users, who questioned why Vikram hadn’t responded to the offer.

In the interview with Film Companion, Anurag Kashyap expressed his initial intention of casting Vikram for the lead role in Kennedy. He disclosed, “I actually had a specific actor in mind when I wrote this film. Which is why the film is called Kennedy.” He further explained that Vikram’s real name being Kennedy and his nickname being Chiyaan Vikram, he had reached out to him but received no reply. As a result, Kashyap turned to Rahul Bhatt, who eventually took on the role and dedicated eight months of his life to the film.

After a clip of the interview surfaced online, Twitter users couldn’t help but express their disappointment over Vikram’s lack of response. One individual tweeted, “Hey @chiyaan, what is this? How great it would have been to see that collaboration of Anurag and Kenny.”

Another user commented, “Why Vikram? This could’ve been your biggest comeback, and you could be in Cannes right now.” There was also a tweet that read, “He could’ve at least said yes or no. It’s weird that he didn’t even respond to the offer.”

In response to the Twitter reactions, Vikram himself took to the platform and replied to Anurag Kashyap’s tweet. He clarified the situation, stating that he had not received any mail or message from Kashyap because the email address he had used was inactive, and his phone number had changed two years prior. Vikram reassured Kashyap that he was excited about the film Kennedy, especially because it shared his name. He wished Kashyap great times ahead and signed off as Chiyaan Vikram, also known as Kennedy.

However, Vikram himself clarified the situation, explaining that he had not received the message due to communication issues. His response reassured fans and showcased his excitement for the film. Despite the missed opportunity, the Twitter reactions highlighted the enthusiasm surrounding Kennedy and the interest in seeing Vikram in such a collaboration.

“Absolutely right Boss sir. For the information of people, when he found from another actor that I was trying to reach to him he called me directly and we realised that he had a different WhatsApp number. He gave me his correct information to reach out and even showed interest in reading the script but by then we were all locked and a month away from shooting. He also graciously blessed us to use the name “Kennedy” for the film. What I stated in the interview was the story behind, how the film got to be called Kennedy. There is no need for any overreaction. And definitely I think neither Chiyaan sir or I am retiring without working together. FYI we go back to pre Sethu days” Anurag replied back.
