A 19 year old youth who wished to contest in the local body elections on behalf of actor Vijay’s “Makkal Iyakkam”, got rejected due to his age, according to a report of The News 18. Election commission said that the eligible candidates must have completed 21 years of age. As soon as the news surfaced on Internet, the actor’s political party became a subject to severe trolls in online platforms. Online fans of actor Ajith kumar made their presence to make fun of the actor’s political venture.

After a gap of over 10 years, the Tamil nadu urban local body polls will be held in a single phase on 19th of February. Major political parties including the ruling DMK, the opposition AIADMK, BJP, Congress, Makkal Neethi Maiam, Pattali Makkal Katchi, Naam Tamilar and Amma Munnetra Kazhagam ave released their list of candidates who will be contesting the polls to 21 corporations, 138 municipalities, 490 town panchayats and 649 other urban local bodies.

Along with the candidates of several parties, Independent candidates are also contesting in the election. Party members of actor Vijay’s “Vijay Makkal Iyakkam” also contested in the election as independent candidates in Chennai and several other districts. To contest in the 48 wards of Kumbakonam corporation in Thanjavur district, 443 candidates applied.

In the 13th ward of the corporation, a youth named Bharani who just completed 19 years old applied to contest in the election. Authorities rejected his application, citing that a candidate must have completed 21 years old to contest in the local body elections. The news has grabbed headlines with many online users making fun of the actor’s budding political party.

A similar report about actor Kamal Haasan’s MNM also surfaced earlier. It is said that a 19 year old youth tried to contest in the local body elections and the authorities rejected his application after knowing his age. Another candidate of the same party who is a 65 years old elderly woman, didn’t even know about her party name, party leader’s name and about the ward she was contesting, said reports.
