Actor Vijay Sethupathi, is currently riding high on success after delivering two consecutive hits in ‘Chekka Chivantha Vaanam’ and ’96’.
Now, Vijay Sethupathi has more reasons rejoice as his much-anticipated film ‘Super Deluxe’ was released few minutes before.
The film which also stars Samantha has been under production for over two years. The movie has Fahad Faasil, Ramya Krishnan and Mysskin playing prominent roles.
Super Deluxe’s teaser was released earlier this year and we were introduced to Samantha’s character Vaembu, who was seen anxiously readying to bring down the butchers knife on someone lying unconscious. Vijay Sethupathi was earlier introduced as Shilpa.
The film’s screenplay has been written by Thiagarajan with additional inputs from Mysskin, Nalan Kumarasamy and Neelan K Sekar. The film is being bankrolled by the director under his own banner, TDKF. Yuvan Shankar Raja is composing music for this venture, with PS Vinod and Nirav Shah cranking the camera and Sathyaraj Natarajan taking care of the editing.
Thiagarajan Kumararaja’s directorial debut was with the critically acclaimed film Aaranya Kaandam, which went on to win several awards including the National Film Award for Best First Film of a Director and Best Editing (for Praveen KL and NB Srikanth). The film premiered at the South Asian International Film Festival on October 30, 2010, and released in India on June 10 next year.
Yuvan Shankar Raja has scored the music for the film while Mysskin and Nalan Kumarasamy have written the additional screenplay.
Vijay Sethupathi plays the role of Shilpa, a transgender person, in Super Deluxe, while Samantha is playing a character called Vaembu.
The ‘Vikram Vedha’ star has always been a delight to work with and during a recent interaction with TNIE, ’96’ film director Prem Kumar had some good words to say about Vijay Sethupathi.
He said,” Sethupathi was the first person I ever approached for a film. So I was a bit nervous. But luckily, he had no expectations from me as a writer. In fact, he expected a rehash of some Korean drama. But he loved that the story was original and unique. And he also said that I should direct the film myself to keep the mood intact.”
In a recent interview to Galatta.com the director revealed that Vijay Sethupathi does not think of his image at all at any stage of this film’s making. He thought what the character Shilpa will think and I was very much excited to see his inputs. He gave inputs in the angle which I had not thought of” the director praised the actor.
