Vijay Sethupathi got replaced by the Actor Madhurr Mittal in the film “800” – a biopic of the famous Srilankan Cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan. On the occasion of Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan’s birthday, the makers of the upcoming biopic “800” released the first look poster of the film, featuring Madhurr Mittal as Muralitharan.

The movie, directed by MS Sripathy, is titled after the record number of wickets taken by Muralitharan in test cricket and is set to release in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi. Madhurr Mittal, known for his role in “Slumdog Millionaire,” expressed his excitement to play the cricket legend on Instagram.

The upcoming biopic “800” is based on the life of Muttiah Muralitharan, one of the greatest cricketers in history.  The movie is named after the record number of wickets taken by Muralitharan in test cricket. The first look poster of the film was released on the cricketer’s birthday, featuring Madhurr Mittal in the role of Muralitharan.

Muralitharan was born on April 17, 1972, in Kandy, Sri Lanka. He started playing cricket at the age of 12 and quickly developed a reputation as a prodigious talent. Despite facing challenges due to his unusual bowling style, Muralitharan continued to hone his craft and eventually became one of the most successful cricketers in history.

Throughout his career, Muralitharan faced numerous controversies, including accusations of chucking, or throwing the ball, during his bowling action. He was cleared of these allegations, but they continued to follow him throughout his career. In addition, Muralitharan was involved in political controversies due to his perceived support for the Sri Lankan government during the country’s civil war.

In 2020, the makers of “800” announced that actor Vijay Sethupathi would play the role of Muralitharan. However, the casting was met with backlash from some Tamil nationalists and politicians who opposed Sethupathi’s portrayal of the cricketer. They cited Muralitharan’s perceived support for the Sri Lankan government during the civil war as the reason for their opposition.

Muralitharan himself defended his actions, stating that he never disrespected Eelam Tamils and pointing out his own Tamil background. However, some footage and news reports suggested that he had supported the Sri Lankan government and made insensitive remarks towards the end of the civil war.

As a result of the controversy,  Vijay Sethupathi ultimately decided to drop out of the project, and Madhurr Mittal was cast in the role of Muralitharan. The release of the movie has been eagerly awaited by cricket fans and movie enthusiasts alike.

Muttiah Muralitharan’s career spanned over two decades, during which he became the highest wicket-taker in both Test and ODI cricket. He was a master of spin bowling, and his unconventional action made him one of the most difficult bowlers to face for batsmen around the world.
