The leading actors of Tamil film industry – Suriya, Vijay Sethupathi and Vishal – have contributed towards relief funds for those affected by Cyclone Gaja in Tamil Nadu.

The recent ‘Cyclone Gaja’ left many Tamil Nadu districts devasted, with the death toll reaching 45. According to a Behindwoods report, Vijay Sethupathi has donated Rs 25 lakh for the ‘Cyclone Gaja’ relief work.

Agriculture and horticulture losses have affected the lives of people in rural areas. Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Cuddalore, Pudukkottai and Ramanathapuram are the most affected districts.

On that note, actor Sivakumar’s family has donated a sum of Rs 50 lakhs, that also includes the donation of his sons Suriya, Karthi, and daughter-in-law, Jyothika.

Actor Vishal, who is the president of Tamil Nadu Film Producers’ Council, took to Twiiter and wrote, “Nature’s fury, in name of #CycloneGaja was @ its peak. We need to come together & help the affected. Apart from Food, Clothing, Essential house hold, we have to organise for Coconut saplings & We must Donate as much as we can.Let us collectively help rebuild #KaveriDelta.”

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president  MK Stalin on Monday announced Rs 1crore financial assistance for the relief and rehabilitation work in cyclone Gaja hit areas in eight districts of the state.

Stalin also declared that his party members of the Rajya Sabha and Legislative Assembly will also donate their one month’s salary for the relief and rehabilitation works.

On knowing the news famous movie reviewer Prashanth took his twitter account to ask Stalin to donate more by tagging the DMK president himself. His tweet roughly translated as “If a lone man called Vijay Sethupathi can able to donate 25 lakhs, The family of Sivakumar Sir able to donate 50 lakhs, a party which has 6000 crore worth asset can only able to donate 1 crore ? Stalin Sir, Donate atleast 10 crore !!”

Gaja made landfall in Tamilnadu on November 16 and affected Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Pudukottai, Nagapattinam and parts of Dindigul district. Over 40 people have died and over 80,000 people have been left stranded.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K. Palaniswami on Monday announced a sum of Rs.1,000 crore for carrying out relief works in the cyclone Gaja affected districts.

He also said the death toll due to cyclone has gone up to 46.

In a statement issued here, Mr Palaniswami said a solatium of Rs. 10 lakh will be given to the families of the dead, Rs. 100,000 to those who are severely injured and Rs. 25,000 for those who have suffered minor injuries.
