A tweet comparing a popular fight sequence of Atlee’s “Mersal” film with Salman Khan’s “Sultan”, goes insanely viral in the micro blogging social media platform. “Sultan” is a bollywood movie released on 6th July of 2016 whereas “Mersal” released on 18th October of 2017. The twitter user who uploaded the comparison video tagged the official account of director Atlee questioning him about the plagiarism. The tweet is garnering a wide reach as it got shared by 2000 people so far.

After directing 4 films in Tamil, Atlee became one of the leading filmmakers of Kollywood. Many news regarding his next venture has been surfacing. Some news portals said that he is going to direct Bollywood Badshah Shah Rukh Khan, others said that he is going to make a film with Telugu Superstar Junior NTR. However neither of them made it to the official announcement yet.

Atlee is arguably one of the most loved and hated filmmaker of Tamil cinema right now. Being a former assistant of Shankar, Atlee’s way of presenting his films and the castings he choose for the characters are considered as his major qualities. All the four films of Atlee became blockbusters despite of the plagiarism controversies. His recent release “BIGIL” has reportedly collected 300 crores in the box office. The film marked the third collaboration of Atlee with actor Vijay, after “Theri” and “Mersal”.

Now, in this video which compares the introduction scene of character “Vettri Maaran” in “Mersal” film with a introduction scene of character “Sultan Ali Khan” in “Sultan” film, contains few similarities. However, we all are aware about the fact that the fight sequences of a film will be choreographed by a stunt master. As Atlee found himself in a lot of plagiarism controversies in previous occasions, these users of Twitter started accusing the filmmaker for the similarity.

Atlee who is often criticized for replicating the movies of ace filmmaker Mani ratnam, once said that he feels proud on the fact of his movies getting compared with classic films of a legendary filmmaker like Mani ratnam. His debut film “Raja Rani” got widely compared with “Mouna Ragam” a cult classic of Mani ratnam. His second film “Theri” was compared with “Chathriyan” which was also written and produced by Mani ratnam. His third film “Mersal” was compared with “Aboorva Sagotharargal”, a double action flick of Kamal Haasan whereas his fourth film “Bigil” got compared with many films including Bollywood blockbuster “Chak de India” and Hollywood sports drama “Miracle”.
