A famous theatre located in Kundrathur, Chennai to pay Rs. 1 lakh as fine for charging extra money to a fan who visited their premises to watch actor Ajith’s “Nerkonda Parvai” movie two years ago. The fan filed a case in the Chengalpattu consumer court after he was asked to pay Rs. 525 per ticket to watch the movie.
The complainant who is identified as Kaasi Mayan, a 34 year old man, a resident of a housing unit area in Ayapakkam, booked online ticket to watch the Ajith starrer in Parimalam theatre two years ago. While the government capped ticket prices at Rs. 100 per person in the year 2017, the theatre forced Kasi to pay Rs. 525 to watch the film.
Followed by the same, Kasi filed a suite against the private theatre at the Chengalpattu consumer court in the year 2019. Attaching the booking documents as evidence, Kasi claimed that the theatre management charged Rs. 425 extra from him for a ticket.
As the case came up for hearing on Wednesday, the district consumer court directed the theatre to pay Rs. 1 lakh as compensation to the complainant with Rs. 20,000 for his legal fees and also to reimburse the excess amount of Rs. 425 that was collected for the ticket.
With actor Ajith kumar’s “Thunivu” and Vijay’s “Varisu” getting released in theatres simultaneously, the news grabbed headlines with fans of the actors reacting in various ways.
