Teacher’s Wife Arrested in Student Suicide Case, Negligence in Addressing Sexual Harassment Allegations

In a tragic incident that unfolded at a private school in RS Puram, Coimbatore, a 35-year-old teacher named Mithun Chakravarthy took his own life on November 12, 2021, allegedly due to being subjected to sexual harassment. In a recent development, Mithun Chakravarthy wife, Archana, who was also a teacher at the same school, has been arrested for her negligence in addressing the student’s complaints. Details of the Incident, The incident took place at a private school in RS Puram, Coimbatore, where Mithun Chakravarthy worked as a teacher. It was reported that the student, whose identity remains undisclosed, had approached Archana, Mithun’s wife, with complaints of harassment by her husband. Unfortunately, Archana failed to take appropriate action in response to these serious allegations. Consequently, the authorities have held her responsible for the student’s suicide. The Coimbatore West Region Women’s Police have arrested Archana and produced her before the POCSO court.

A former Coimbatore school teacher who was accused of sexually assaulting a Class 12 student, which came to light after the girl’s suicide, has been detained under the Goondas Act. The Coimbatore city police has booked 31-year-old Mithun Chakravarthy and a detention order was served to him in the Coimbatore Central Prison, where he is under judicial remand.
