Tamil cinema celebrities including Superstar Rajinikanth getting criticized for not casting their votes in the local body elections that took place on 19th of February. According to the report of News 18, Ajith kumar, Dhanush, Simbu, Sivakarthikeyan and Trisha are some of the other top-tier Tamil cinema celebrities who didn’t cast their votes on the election day. It has been reported that the supporters of the stars who were waiting at their stars respective polling booths to get a glimpse of their idols, got disappointed.

Personal relations professionals who were employed by the above mentioned celebrities, stated that the stars were not in the city for outdoor shoots or personal factors. The voting percentage of Tamil nadu was lower than predicted this time. 47% of votes had been allied by 3 PM and by the time polls got closed at 5 PM, up to 52% ballots were casted by the public.

Social media platforms witnessed an intense debate over people not turning up to do their democratic duty. The refusal of several celebrities to vote has come as a surprise. Actor Vijay voted at a polling station in Neelangarai, Chennai corporation. Suriya and Kartthi casted their votes as well. Kamal haasan, Udhayanihi Stalin, Sasikala, TTV Dhinakaran casted their votes at their respective polling stations.

Many expressed their displeasure over some of the influential personalities from film industry failing to cast their vote, doing which would have inspired their millions of fans to do so. Superstar Rajinikanth got trolled for attending the marriage function of Producer Anbu Chezhiyan’s house without turning up to vote in the local body elections.
