Swimming Coach, Surajit Ganguly molested a minor and the video which was going viral now was recorded by the victim herself. Surajit Ganguly, was terminated after a video of him allegedly molesting a minor went viral, was on Thursday booked for rape and criminal intimidation besides offences under the POCSO Act. Goa Swimming Association president Digambar Kamat confirmed Ganguly’s termination and said a letter was sent on Wednesday evening to concerned authorities to ensure the alleged accused was removed from the roster.
A complaint lodged by the girl at her local police station has been sent to Goa. The police there have filed a case of rape, molestation and criminal intimidation and also under the strict Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Gajanan Prabhudessai, in-charge of the Mapusa sub-division, confirmed the registration of an FIR under Sections 461, 354, 376 and 506 (ii) of the Indian Penal Code, Section 8 of the Goa Children’s Act and Sections 6 and 8 of POCSO Act.
The Kolkata Police are also investigating the case as both the victim as well as the accused hail from West Bengal. Late on Wednesday, filmmaker Vinod Kapri uploaded grabs of the video and tagged Sports Minister Kiren Rijuju, seeking action against Ganguly.
Rijiju tweeted in response: “Stringent action will be taken through Sports Authority. Firstly, it’s a heinous crime of serious nature so I’ll urge the Police to take stringent penal action against the coach urgently.”
Rijiju further directed the SFI to ensure that the “coach is not employed anywhere in India”.

“I’ve taken a strong view of the incident. The Goa Swimming Association has terminated the contract of coach Surajit Ganguly. I’m asking the Swimming Federation of India to ensure that this coach is not employed anywhere in India. This applies to all Federations and disciplines,” Rijiju tweeted.

Going by the report of NDTV , the victim said “I was coaching with him since I was 10 years old. I got good results. He asked me come to Goa. I went. My father was there most times. But the coach’s behaviour was horrible,”

“He would touch me, threaten me. Don’t tell anyone, he warned. It’s between you and your coach, he said. Don’t tell your parents. You have a future. He would come to my house. He would misbehave in the pool. I want help,” the girl said.
