Online food delivery platform Swiggy won the hearts of public with their latest announcement on introducing a time-off policy for women struggling to work on “that day of the month”. The company announced that it has announced a “no-questions asked, two day paid monthly time off policy” for its women delivery partners, a move that is expected to enable more female delivery agents to get on board with Swiggy. Meanwhile, reactions surfacing in Internet saying that Swiggy makes a strong move to get past Zomato which landed in trouble recently over language issue.
“Discomfort from being out and about on road while menstruating is one of the most underreported reasons why women don’t consider delivery to be a viable gig” Mihir Shah, vice president of operations at Swiggy said in a blog post on Thursday. “To support them through any kind of menstruation related challenges, we have introduced a no-questions asked, two-day paid monthly period time-off policy for all our regular female partners” he added.
Women delivery partner of the online food delivering app can opt for two days paid leave every month. In their blog post, Swiggy said that the company recruited it’s first female employee in the year 2016 and has been working on creating an environment to make more women to opt for the job of delivering food.
The move has impressed Internet users in big time with many reacting that Zomato is being cornered in every direction. Zomato is also a online food delivery app that is functioning actively. Most recently the company made headlines after one of it’s call centre agent insisted people of India to learn a little bit of Hindi language and wrongly claimed it as a national language. Zomato’s founder Deepinder Goyal’s tweet regarding the same only added fuel to the fire.
