This created a huge debate between Tamilnadu based social media users as a set of people argued that students should not be qualified in this way which will affect them in future. While the debate is still on, students who failed to pay the fees and couldn’t clear the exam this time, started seeking the government’s help to find a way to make them pass. They who are requesting the chief minister to reconsider his decision, demanding an opportunity to pay the fees for their exams.

The announcement which was made on Wednesday is applicable for the students who were preparing to write arrear exams as well. However, final semester students must write their exams in order to get their degree. “The state government has already granted exemptions to students who were to appear for the regular exams” Chief minister Edappadi Pazhaniswamy said in his statement.

“Accepting requests from the students and keeping their welfare in mind, and based on the recommendations made by the expert committee set up by government of Tamil nadu, examinations for students who were registered to write their semester exams by paying the exam fees, except the final semester exams, will be cancelled as per the guidelines of the University grants commission and All India Council for technical education and marks will be provided to them” the statement said.

Tamil nadu government had written to the Union minister for Education explaining that it was not possible to conduct the exams in the state by the given date due to the rising number of COVID 19 cases and other practical difficulties. The marks for these exams will be awarded based on the guidelines given by University Grants Commission (UGC) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).” the chief minister of the state said.

When the press asked him whether this decision would gain him votes, the Chief minister said that the question is unnecessary. Students who were paid fees for their exams were celebrating the declaration by posting memes and trolls whereas students who failed to pay the fees got extremely upset and spitting their emotions in social media platforms.

Meanwhile, a hashtag saying “Justice For Non Paid Arrear Students” is trending in Twitter. Many of the students are stating that they couldn’t pay the fees due to the lockdown implement that took place in late March to prevent COCID 19 spread. A student went one step ahead and posted a picture of his hands bleeding with a tweet saying “Unlucky Fellow in this whole world … Good bye all.” . Though the authenticity of the tweet is unconfirmed, the tweet is trending in Twitter.
