Samantha Ruth Prabhu, popularly known as Samantha Akkineni, is a leading South Indian actress who has made a mark in the Indian film industry. She was born on April 28, 1987, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Samantha started her career as a model and made her acting debut in 2010 with the Telugu film ‘Ye Maaya Chesave‘. Since then, she has acted in over 40 films in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi languages.

Samantha has won several awards for her performances, including four Filmfare Awards, four South Indian International Movie Awards, and two CineMAA Awards. She has also been named as the “Most Desirable Woman” by several publications.

In 2018, Samantha was diagnosed with myositis, a rare autoimmune disorder that affects the muscles. She took a break from acting to focus on her health and underwent treatment for the same. In an Instagram post, she shared her experience of battling the disease and thanked her fans for their support.

In a interview with Bollywood Bubble, Samantha spoke about the impact of Myositis on her appearance. She shared that she has lost control over how she looks, with one day being puffy, the next day being fat, and the next day being sick. She said, “As an actor, your eyes are a medium to express emotions, and every day, I wake up with pins and needles in my eyes. I am sensitive to light. I don’t wear glasses just for fun and style, the light actually affects my eyes. I have an intense migraine, and I have intense pain in my eyes, they swell from the pain, and this has been the case for the past eight months.”

Samantha made her comeback to films with the Telugu film ‘Jaanu‘ in 2020, which received critical acclaim for her performance. She then acted in the mythological film ‘Shaakuntalam‘, directed by Gunasekhar, which was released in 2023. However, the film failed to perform well at the box office.

Apart from films, Samantha is also making her digital debut with the upcoming web series ‘Citadel‘. The series is being directed by Raj and DK and produced by The Russo Brothers. It is a pan-Indian series that is the Indian version of the Hollywood Amazon Prime Video series of the same name. The series is set to premiere on April 28th this year.

In the recently released trailer of ‘Citadel’, Priyanka Chopra and Richard Madden, who play the lead pair, are seen in intimate love scenes and have both gone nude in them. Fans have raised the question on social media whether Samantha and Varun Dhawan, who play the same roles in the Indian remake, will also do the same. It remains to be seen if Raj and DK retain the same or they change it to suit Indian audience tastes.

Samantha recently attended the London premiere of ‘Citadel’, along with Priyanka Chopra and the rest of the cast. She looked stunning in a black gown and shared her experience of the event on her social media. She said, “Truly humbled to be amongst some of the world’s best at the Global Premiere of Citadel in London. The camaraderie, the creativity, the talent, the love, the shared vision, the dream of the people in that room was so inspiring and invigorating that I feel truly lucky and blessed to be part of this team and the Citadel Universe.”
