Samantha Ruth Prabhu, seemingly reacted to the box office result of her recently released film “Shaakunthalam”. he actress shared a quote from “Bhagavat Gita” to express her emotions over how to perceives the result, according to a number of media portals. It has been reported that the film failed to impress the audience and critics.

Samantha’s much-awaited film, Shaakuntalam, has hit the theatres on April 14. Despite the high expectations, the film has been struggling to perform well at the box office. In the first four days of its release, the film couldn’t even reach the Rs 10 crore mark in the domestic box office. This is alarming as the film was made with a massive budget of approximately Rs 65 crore. At this rate, it seems that Shaakuntalam is headed towards a disaster.

Shaakuntalam, directed by Gunasekhar, is a mythological tale and had a pan-Indian release in multiple languages. However, it has received a lukewarm response from the audience. The film’s underwhelming performance in the box office could lead to significant losses for the production house.

On Monday, April 17, Shaakuntalam’s collection saw a sharp decline, with the film estimated to have earned only Rs 60 lakh. This is a staggeringly low amount, and the film is likely to incur losses. The four-day total collection now stands at Rs 6.25 crore nett in India.

The Telugu version of the film saw an occupancy of 9.63% on Monday, April 17. The film is a mythological drama based on Kalidasa’s play titled Abhignyana Shakuntalam, with Samantha playing the titular role and Dev Mohan essaying the role of King Dushyanta of Puru dynasty.

Despite being one of the most anticipated films of 2023, Shaakuntalam’s failure to draw audiences could be attributed to various factors. The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted the film industry, with several releases postponed or made available on OTT platforms. Furthermore, the lack of marketing and promotion for the film could have contributed to the low turnout in theatres.

The box office collections are crucial to determine the success of a film, and Shaakuntalam’s performance has raised concerns about the fate of big-budget films in the current scenario. It is essential for production houses to reconsider their release strategies and ensure that their films reach the maximum audience through proper marketing and promotion.

In response to such reports, Samantha quoted a line from the Bhagavad Gita, an ancient Hindu text, which translates to “You have a right to perform your prescribed action, but you are not entitled to the fruits of your action.”
