Chennai’s Saidapet Railway Station was rocked by a shocking incident where a woman vendor was brutally hacked to death. The gruesome murder sent shockwaves through the community, leaving everyone in disbelief. Four days after the tragic event, the Government Railway Police (GRP) made a breakthrough by arresting five individuals, including the victim’s own sister, in connection with the heinous crime.

The arrested accused were identified as V Sakthi alias Sakthivel (23), S Jegadeesh (23), R Surya (19), Y Johnson (19), and M Nagavalli (23), the sister of the deceased, Rajeshwari. Astonishingly, the arrested individuals were also vendors on trains, making the incident even more disturbing.

The investigation revealed a chilling motive behind the murder. Apparently, Nagavalli, the sister of the victim, had hired the gang to execute the gruesome act. The reason behind this shocking act of violence was a personal vendetta that escalated to a fatal level. It was discovered that Rajeshwari had threatened to kill Nagavalli and her lover, Sakthivel, after they eloped a month ago. Nagavalli, who was already married and had two children, feared for her life and decided to resort to this extreme measure to eliminate the threat posed by her sister.

The absence of CCTV cameras at Saidapet Railway Station initially posed a challenge for the investigators. However, the GRP’s diligent efforts, employing conventional methods such as inquiries and groundwork, eventually led to the identification and subsequent arrest of the perpetrators. According to SP Ponram, who addressed the media during a press meet at Tambaram Railway Station, the police left no stone unturned to bring the culprits to justice.

Further investigation into the incident revealed another potential reason for the brutal attack. Rajeshwari had previously confronted the gang months ago when she witnessed them allegedly assaulting a man. This confrontation could have also contributed to the motive behind the attack, as suggested by a senior GRP officer. As the investigation continued, the police remained open to exploring all possible angles to ensure justice was served for the victim and her grieving family.

The accused, Sakthivel and Jegadeesh, already had pending cases against them before their involvement in this horrifying murder.
