While replying to a tweet of DMK party’s Women’s wing secretary Kanimozhi, S.Ve Shekar said that one cannot pronounce India without using “Hindi”. With the ruling AIADMK rejected the three-language formula outright and reiterating two language policy, the state thwarted a perceived third attempt for imposition of Hindi in the last 83 years.

In the 1937, the first attempt of Hindi imposition was prevented through a series of protest by Dravidar Kazhagam and a few other organisations in the Madras Presidency. In 1967, massive agitations led by DMK spoiled the second attempt. Now, Chief minister Edappadi K Pazhaniswamy did the same by rejecting the policy.

Meanwhile, DMK’s Kanimozhi, recently posted a tweet narrating an experience she had in an airport. She said that a CISF officer asked her if she is an Indian when she asked her to speak in Tamil or English. She questioned how knowing Hindi became the primary eligibility of being an Indian. “Today at the airport a CISF officer asked me if “I am an Indian” when I asked her to speak to me in tamil or English as I did not know Hindi. I would like to know from when being indian is equal to knowing Hindi.” read her tweet.

BJP member and actor S.VE Shekar made a reply tweet saying that 3 language policy should be implemented to sort ot such issue. He said that it will help CISF officers to learn Hindi. “LIke URUDHU in TN govt./pvt schools u can support HINDHI also to Govt school children.”wrote Shekar in his tweet who also added that one cannot pronounce “இந்தியா” without using Hindi.

This tweet irked many of the Tamil nadu based twitter users who confronted him through their reply tweets. “India cannot be pronounced without Hindi? What next? India cannot be pronounced without Hindu?I don’t mind learning or speaking in Hindi. But not when forced. Who are they to decide those who don’t know Hindi are not Indians?” asked one of a follower whereas another one said “Let me suggest an easier option. Recruit CSIF from local population who will be comfortable in the local regional language.” in his comment.
