Thiagarajan Kumararaja has made only one film titled Aaranya Kaandam, which was released in 2010, and it was a box office failure. Yet, it won a National Award for Best Direction. The director then went AWOL, and had remained so for the past nine years. But his second film Super Deluxe is currently the talk of the town, which released today.

Aaranya Kaandam is now streaming on a popular OTT (Over The Top) service, but earlier there used to be a joke among ardent fans – that even Thiagarajan doesn’t have a good print of the film! How did this underdog become the talk of the town now? It was predominantly through word-of-mouth reviews of his debut film. in an industry where directors vanish in just years of churning out numerous hits, Thiagarajan stayed with the fans; fans who were left wondering for a long time what this filmmaker was up to.

Super Deluxe, which boasts of a big star cast comprising Vijay Sethupathi, Fahadh Faasil, Ramya Krishnan, Samantha and Mysskin in key roles.

Ramya Krishnan is playing the role of a porn star in the film. Vijay Sethupathi is playing the role of a transperson called Shilpa. In a recent interview, Sethupathi spilled some beans about his role. Shilpa’s story is about her return to her house after many years. Now, it could be about how she is received by her parents and acquaintances; but with Thiagarajan, you never know. Samantha’s character Vembu, it is said, is a role that has negative shades. Not much is out about Mysskin’s role.

Today as the movie released, reactions from Internet pouring from the reviewers and common audience. Prashanth, one of the prominent reviewers of Tamil cinema expressed his view on the film as soon as he watched it.

Samantha immediately responded to his comment through her official twitter account. The actress who got confused of his tweet asked him whether it is an insult or compliment with laughter.
