A incident that took place in India’s silicon valley Bengaluru city has created shock waves among the public. It has been reported that a young girl who booked rapido driver for a ride, got gangraped by a rider and his friend. The accused got arrested and the investigation is currently underway.

The victim who originally hails from Kerala, had booked a Rapido ride in Bangalore. The gruesome crime took place in Neeladri Nagar near Electronics City during the intervening night between Friday and Saturday. It has been reported that it is the first case that emerged to the fore in this bike rental service. Rapido is an Indian bike taxi aggregator and logistics service provider based out Bengaluru.

The Police source said “The woman had hired a “Rapido” bike to go from one friend’s house to another. On the way, the bike driver took an advantage and taken her to his place, where he along with his friend have raped her. There was another woman along with them during the crime, who cooperated and then tried to hush it up” Pratap Reddy, Police commissioner of Bengaluru city said.

While speaking with the reporters, the officer said “The victim was suffering from pain in her body parts, she visited doctors for medical help on the afternoon of November 26, following which the police got the information about the incident that evening. Police immediately registered an FIR and swung into action and have arrested all the accused. Also evidence has been collected from the spot with the help of forensic lab experts” he further said and assured that further investigation is on.

Apart from the Rapido driver, the other accused has been identified as a worker at a mobile store and one of then had a criminal case against him in the past.

In a statement, Rapido’s spokesman had said “Rapido strongly condemns the action of one of the rider registered on our platform who was booked by the police for assaulting a lady and deeply apologizes to the victim who had to undergo such an unfortunate ordeal. We have extended all help to the police and assisted in apprehending the accused. Rapido will continue to extend it’s full support to the police in their investigation of this case. Rapido has a customer-first policy and we wish to stress the fact that their security and safety are of the utmost priority”

The incident has created huge outrage among the public with many demanding highest possible punishment for the accused.
