Rapido driver who has been identified as a 27 year old Deepak got arrested by Police officials after he tried to grope one of his customers, a 30 year old woman. She managed to jump off the moving bike to save herself from the miscreant who also snatched her phone and tried to take her to a different destination. The incident took place at Bengaluru during the night of April 21.

According to reports, the woman booked a ride with Rapido’s bike taxi service at around 11 p.m. in order to reach a friend’s house in Indiranagar. However, the driver allegedly took a detour and headed towards Doddaballapur Road instead. When questioned by the passenger, the driver reportedly started to speed and even attempted to grope her.

In a shocking turn of events, the woman jumped off the moving motorcycle near BMS College in Nagenahalli, near Yelahanka, sustaining injuries to her hands and legs. Fortunately, she was wearing a helmet and escaped major injuries to her head and face. The security staff at the college gate immediately came to her aid, while the accused fled the scene.

The victim borrowed a mobile phone from the staff and informed her family and friends about the incident. CCTV footage captured the entire ordeal, which was later used to identify and arrest the accused. The suspect has been identified as 27-year-old Deepak Rao, a resident of Thindlu and a native of Andhra Pradesh. He has since been sent to judicial custody.

Preliminary investigations have suggested that the accused was intoxicated at the time of the incident. This is not the first time that a bike taxi driver has been arrested for such an offense in the city. In 2019, another driver was taken into custody after allegedly molesting a 27-year-old woman from the US. Weeks ago,  a Twitter user by the handle “husnpari” shared screenshots of inappropriate messages allegedly sent by a Rapido driver. According to the tweets, the woman had shared her location with the driver via WhatsApp and the driver had responded with a series of messages in Hindi at 1:25 am, asking if she was awake. He further explained that her profile picture and voice had motivated him to come pick her up, despite being in a distant location. The driver’s final message translated to “another thing, I am not bhaiyya (brother).”
