Actress Kasthuri reacted to a statement of Vanni Arasu, Deputy General secretary of Viduhalai Siruthai Katchi (VCK). Countering an alleged statement of BJP leader Annamalai who said that Hijab ban will be enforced in Tamil nadu, Vanni Arasu replied saying that “Poonal”, a sacred thread that is widely used by Brahmins will be banned if Thirumalavan (VCK leader) ever comes to the power.

The Hijab issue that is currently taking place in Karnataka state, has created huge outrage across the country. It all started after a number of students were stopped at the gate of their school premises for wearing hijab. In order to enter the classes, the students started staging protests. Students from Hindu religion counter-protests by entering school by wearing a saffron scarf.

The incident created huge outrage across the country and more than one week schools/colleges were closed due to protests. Meanwhile, a report surfaced saying that Tamil nadu BJP leader Annamalai said “Tamil nadu will also face Hijab ban” to the media. On Friday, Vanni Arasu, Deputy General secretary of VCK party, through his official twitter handle said that “Poonal” will be banned if his party leader Thirumalavan becomes Chief minister.

“Time for VCK to rule Tamil nadu will come soon. Entire Tamil nadu is expecting the day on which Thirumavalavan is going to become Chief minister. At that time, wearing Poonal will be banned and that’s our first job” Vanni Arasu said in his twitter post.

Among the many reactions that surfaced for the tweet of Vanni Arasu, actress Kasthuri came up with a reply saying “What “Poonal” ban ? Going to destroy Hinduism ?? Watch you words !! Sekhar Reddy might get angry. Don’t be a hypocrite and behave according to your conscience. Don’t make the people who believe you as scapegoats” in her tweet.

Replying back to Kasthuri’s tweet, Vanni Arasu questioned why she is losing her cool after reading the word “Poonal” and went on to question what would “Poonal” be considered if “Hijab” is religious identity.
