Periyar Statue Disrespected In Coimbatore !! One Surrendered

In Coimbatore’s Sundarapuram Area, Periyar statue got desecrated by some unidentified people in the early hours of Friday. It has been discovered that few unidentified people poured saffron paint on the statue of the late social activist. On knowing about the incident, nearly 20 people gathered at the spot and demanded immediate action against the people who disrespected the statue. G Stalin, Deputy commissioner of Police arrived at the spot and assured the followers of Periyar that appropriate action would be taken against the miscreants.

Police officials are collecting the CCTV footages from the nearby shop commercial establishments. “We will arrest the people who disrespected the statue” said Sumit Sharan, commissioner of Police. Along with the Police, supporters of Periyar cleaned the statue and removed the saffron paint from it.

Cops wearing PPE were assembled in front of the statue and in front of five more statues of Periyar and in front of three more statues of Ambedkar. Meanwhile, many supporters of the late activist including political leaders and cinema celebrities started expressing their condemn over the incident. A tag “Periyar” is trending in Twitter nationwide as well.

Recent update has suggested that a youth named as Arun Krishnan got surrendered in Pothanur police station.
