A beautiful gesture of people sending money to a filmmaker’s personal account after watching her film in piracy had took place through Internet. Independent filmmaker Leena Manimekalai’s recently released film “Maadathy” is currently streaming in Malayalam Over the top platform Neestream from 24th of June month with pay per view option.

The film was directed and produced by Leena Manimekalai herself under the banner Karuvachy films. It is reported that the film is an “unfairy” tale that talks about gender, caste identity, violence and religious beliefs. “Maadathy” has received widespread acclaim among the critics and was screened at several International film festivals. The filmmaker is currently involved in promoting the film through her official twitter account.

Most recently, Leena Manimekalai uploaded a tweet sending message to the people who watch her film in illegally. “A request to those who watch my film through pirates copies” Leena started her tweet and went on to say that films that are made with crores of money would be bought by top OTT platforms for more money. “The state of Madathy is different. Only if you watch the film through Neestream by paying money, I can pay the next month rent for my house” the Independent filmmaker said in her tweet.

The tweet of the filmmaker garnered huge reach among the users of twitter and many continued lauding her film’s content through the micro blogging social media site. Meanwhile, a number of users who watched the film in piracy, started demanding the filmmaker to send her account details to provide the money she deserve.

To a user who asked her account details, Leena asked “Really ? You are going to send money if I send my account details ?” “Seriously? But please pay the ticket amount only. Dont make me a kadanaali.” she replied to another follower.

Leena, further came up with a tweet informing her followers about how generous people were. “I sent my account details to a couple of people among the many who kept asking me my account details. They sent me Rs.500 and asked me to keep the money to make my next film” she said in her tweet.
