In a shocking case reported from Tamil Nadu, a 23-year-old Delhi-based bank employee was gang-raped in Kumbakonam district of Tamil Nadu. The survivor was raped by four men, out of which two have been arrested by the local police.

The victim had reached Kumbakonam, from Chennai, by train at 1 am on Saturday. She is a private bank employee. The woman hired an auto-rickshaw to reach her house in the city.

Mirror Now reported that the Lawyer’s association has decided that no lawyer will represent the accused men. The two arrested people have been sent to judicial custody till December 20. According to sources, the victim had arrived at Kumbakonam on November 2 for official purpose.

According to sources, one day when the survivor left late from her workplace, she boarded an auto rickshaw who tried to extort money from her. When she questioned about this he abandoned her in middle of a dark alley.

The auto driver reportedly took a detour. She called a friend and informed about it. After questioning him, he dropped her off at Chettimandapam and sped away. She was stranded alone on the road around four kilometres away from the railway station.

The girl then asked for a lift from a youth who was passing by on the bike. He agreed to drop her. After sometime the bike was followed by the youth’s friend, on another bike.

According to the police, the youngsters took her to a secluded spot near Kumbakonam bypass road and with two more friends joining them, they raped her.

That’s when the four accused came near to the survivor and gang-raped her. The four men arrived and raped her as she tried shouting for help, the accused threatened her with dire consequences.

Shockingly, the survivor was afraid of victim-shaming and did not lodge a police complaint about the incident. When survivor’s colleagues came to know about the incident they filed a complaint at the police station against the four accused men. However, the police have arrested two of the suspects and they have been booked under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. The arrested accused have also been sent to judicial custody.

Her medical examination was conducted. She had taken down the registration number of the auto that dropped her home and the police were able to trace the auto driver.

According to reports the man accompanying her in the auto had made calls using the auto driver’s phone, which assisted the police to track the four assaulters.

The driver indentified the men involved in the rape case to be S Dinesh (24) of Annai Anjugam Nagar, M Vasanth (21) of Motilal Street, S Purushothaman (19) of Moopanar Nagar and S Anbarasan (20) of Halima Nagar.

The woman’s statement was recorded on Wednesday with the Judicial Magistrate. The accused have been booked under Sections 366 (kidnapping), 354 (molestation), 376 (rape) and 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.
