In a first of its kind of FIR that has been registered in Gotri police station located in Gujarat, a woman accused her husband of hiding the truth about his gender and for having “unnatural sex” with her. The woman found out that her husband was a woman earlier and approached the police to take legal action against him.

According to Police reports, the 40 year old woman got astonished after learning that her husband was a woman earlier, with whom she was leading a marriage life for the past eight years. Identified as Dr. Viraj Vardhan, the man who underwent a sex change operation was originally known as “Vijaita”.

In the first information report filed in Gotri police station, Gayathri (name changed) accused her husband of “unnatural sex” and cheating besides naming members of his family in the complaint.

In her complaint, Gayathri said that she met Viraj, a resident of Delhi, through a matrimonial website nine years ago. She met him in the site after losing her husband in a road accident in 2011. While marrying Viraj, Gayathri had a 14 year old daughter.

“They got formally married in February 2014 in presence of family members and event went on honeymoon to Kashmir” the Police officials who received the complaint said. “However, the man refused to have sexual intercourse with Gayathri and consummate the marriage but kept giving excuses for many days. When she pressured him, he reportedly claimed that an accident he suffered while in Russia some years ago rendered him incapable of having sex” the Police official added.

However, the accused told the woman that he would be alright after a minor surgery. In January 2020, he told her he wanted to undergo surgery for obesity and left for Kolkata. The individual, who now identifies as a man, later revealed the truth about what really happened, explaining how he underwent a sex-reassignment procedure while he was way. The woman said that he did not give any detail about his surgery.

Further, Viraj started having the “unnatural sex” as per the description of Gayathri in her complaint and threatened to face dire consequences if she volunteers to tell about him and his activities to anyone. Police Inspector MK Gurjar said that the accused was brought from Delhi to Vadodara and has been detained.
