Karnataka police have apprehended a model from Mumbai believed to be at the center of a sinister honey trapping scheme that exploited vulnerable individuals. The arrest comes as a result of an investigation into a series of incidents involving threats, extortion, and manipulation, leaving victims traumatized and financially drained. The incident, which unfolded within the jurisdiction of the Puttenahalli police station in Bengaluru, has raised concerns about the growing menace of cyber-based crimes and the need for heightened vigilance.

The primary suspect, identified as Neha, also known as Meher, has been pegged as the mastermind behind the operation, according to preliminary investigations. Her modus operandi involved using the messaging platform Telegram to ensnare unsuspecting victims, primarily men aged 20 to 50, residing in Bengaluru. Promising liaisons of intimacy, Neha would entice her victims to her residence located in the J.P. Nagar fifth stage.

Upon entering her abode, the victims were confronted with an unsettling scene – Neha would greet them dressed provocatively in a bikini. Exploiting the shock value of the moment, a gang of accomplices would burst into the room, capturing compromising photographs and videos of the victims together with Neha. The distressing situation would quickly escalate, with the gang confiscating the victims’ mobile phones and compiling a list of their contacts. In a chilling ultimatum, the gang would then demand substantial sums of money from the victims, warning that failure to comply would result in the distribution of the explicit materials to their entire contact list.

The gang’s intimidation tactics did not stop there. Shockingly, they insisted that victims convert to Islam and undergo immediate circumcision if they harbored any hopes of marrying the model. These outrageous demands left the victims traumatized and fearful for their personal and social lives. Many victims succumbed to the pressure, parting with significant sums of money to prevent the release of the compromising images and videos, and to escape the clutches of their captors.

The disturbing scheme came to light when one brave victim found the courage to report the heinous ordeal to the authorities. This pivotal step led to a swift investigation and the apprehension of several individuals believed to be involved in the criminal syndicate. Among those arrested were Sharana Prakash Baligera, Abdul Khader, and Yasin, while a search for another alleged accomplice, Nadeem, is still underway.

Preliminary findings suggest that the gang had targeted at least 12 victims, sparking concerns that there could be even more unreported cases waiting to be unearthed. Law enforcement agencies are diligently working to uncover any additional instances of criminal activity involving this gang, emphasizing the importance of public cooperation in combating cyber-based crimes and ensuring the safety and security of the community.
