Manisha Koirala, a well-known Bollywood actress who has also worked in the southern film industry, recently revealed that her career in the south was brought to an abrupt end after her appearance in the 2002 Rajinikanth film, Baba. Speaking to the YouTube channel O2 India, Manisha mentioned that Baba was probably her last big Tamil film and it flopped badly, which resulted in the decline of her career in the southern film industry. She further added that she was doing multiple south projects before appearing in Baba, but after its box office failure, she received fewer offers.

Baba was a supernatural action thriller film that featured Manisha Koirala in the female lead role alongside Rajinikanth. Despite being a highly anticipated film, Baba failed to meet the audience’s expectations and flopped at the box office. The failure of the film was a huge setback for Manisha, who had gained popularity in the southern film industry with her performances in films like Indian, Bombay, and Aalavandhan.

The plot of Baba revolves around a young man who is an atheist but later discovers that he is the reincarnation of a Himalayan saint. Rajinikanth, who played the lead role in the film, was also the producer and credited with writing its story and screenplay. The film was Rajinikanth’s pet project, and despite its initial failure, he is said to be quite fond of it. In fact, Baba was re-released on the occasion of Rajinikanth’s birthday last year and managed to do well at the box office, according to reports.

However, the success of the re-release did not do much for Manisha’s career in the southern film industry. Despite her previous successes and popularity, Manisha found it difficult to secure good roles in southern films after Baba’s failure. In her interview with O2 India, Manisha expressed her gratitude towards Rajinikanth, who she described as a kind man to work with. She also mentioned that Rajinikanth can never give a flop, and the failure of Baba was an exception.

The film industry is unpredictable, and even the most talented actors and actresses have seen their careers take an unexpected turn after a film’s failure. Manisha’s case is a classic example of how one film’s poor performance can impact an artist’s career trajectory. Despite being a seasoned actress with a solid track record, Manisha found it challenging to make a comeback in the southern film industry after Baba’s failure.
