A twitter user named Shaibal uploaded a post in his handle claiming that he broke his Hyundai car to protest against the company regarding the recent controversy and got brutally trolled by the users of the micro blogging social media site. Uploading his picture, the individual asked others to upload the pictures of their damaged Hyundai which became a subject to severe online troll.
A couple of days ago, after the solidarity messages shared by the Hyundai company’s dealer in Pakistan on social media over Kashmir, a hashtag saying “Boycott Hyundai” trended in the micro blogging social media site. Reacting to the outrage, the company’s India unit shared a statement, highlighting its “zero tolerance policy towards insensitive communication”
On 5th of February, Hyundai Pakistan’s social media handles shared posts in solidarity with the “Kashmiri brothers” in their “struggle for freedom”. It is notable that Pakistan observes February 5 as “Kashmir Solidarity Day” to show its support for the separatist movement in Pakistan.
Though the posts were removed later, hashtag “Boycott Hyundai” trended nationwide in India with many calling out the company for its social media posts on “Kashmir Solidarity Day”.
Reacting to such comments tha surfaced under the negative hashtags, Hyundai India came up with a press release, saying “Hyundai Motor India has been committed to the Indian market for more than 25 years now and we stand firmly for our strong ethos of respecting nationalism. The unsolicited social media post linking Hyundai Motor India is offending our unparalleled commitment and service to this great country” in their post.
“India is second home to the Hyundai brand and we have zero tolerance policy towards insensitive communication and we strongly condemn any such view. As part of our commitment to India, we will continue our efforts towards the betterment of the country as well as its citizens” the post further read.
However, the post didn’t go well with many of the Indian online users as the hashtag against Hyundai continued to trend in Twitter. On Wednesday, a twitter user came up with a tweet uploading a picture of himself showing the damage of his Hyundai car. “Damaged my Hyundai car in protest. Won’t let anti national companies run here. Lets make this a trend. Join me and post your photo of damaged Hyundai car” he captioned his post by adding the hashtag “Boycott Hyundai”
