Male Passenger Kissed Flight Attendant After Drinking Too Much Alcohol. On a Delta Airlines flight from Minnesota to Alaska, a 61-year-old passenger named David Alan Burk allegedly assaulted one of the flight attendants after being served drinks. According to the New York Post, Burk attempted to force himself on one of the cabin crew members after being served his drink of choice by the same flight attendant who later became the victim of his assault.
As a first-class passenger on the flight, Burk was entitled to drinks before takeoff from Minneapolis. However, due to flight regulations, he wasn’t served the drink, which made him “snippy” with the flight attendant. After takeoff, he was served his drink of choice by the same flight attendant who he later allegedly assaulted.
While the plane was on flight, Burk allegedly made a stop in the galley to compliment the flight attendant before requesting a kiss. When the attendant refused the advance, Burk allegedly grabbed his neck, dragged him towards him, and kissed his neck. The flight attendant reported the incident to the other crew members and avoided Burk until he returned to his seat.
Later, a separate flight attendant informed the assaulted flight attendant that Burk had damaged a dish on a tray that contained the food for the captain. As per New York Post, the pilot contacted the airport to report the incident. At the time, Burk appeared to be “wasted” and fell asleep after drinking three glasses of wine on the plane.
During his police questioning, Burk denied shattering the dish, kissing the flight attendant, or being intoxicated. However, he did acknowledge drinking before the flight. Burk was charged with interfering with flight attendants and making false statements and was released on his own recognizance.
The incident is a reminder of the ongoing issue of assault and harassment against flight attendants. In recent years, there has been a rise in incidents of unruly passengers on flights, with many cases involving assault and harassment of flight attendants. The FAA has reported that there were over 4,000 reports of unruly passengers in 2020, with many incidents linked to violations of federal mask mandates.
The safety and well-being of flight attendants are critical to the safety of passengers on a flight. Assault and harassment of flight attendants can cause significant distress and trauma to the victims and affect their ability to perform their duties effectively. It is essential for airlines and passengers to take steps to prevent such incidents from happening and ensure the safety of all passengers and crew members.
