In a bid to raise awareness about blood donation on the occasion of Blood Donor Day, a much-anticipated awareness marathon competition was organized in Madurai today. The event, which witnessed enthusiastic participation from college students in the region, took a tragic turn when a fourth-year engineering student lost his life due to a sudden heart attack.

The awareness marathon competition, inaugurated by Ministers M. Subramanian and Murthy, commenced at the Madurai Medical College and saw around 4,500 students from engineering and arts colleges in Madurai and surrounding areas take part. Among them were 160 students from the Engineering College in Thiruparankundram, including Dinesh Kumar, a fourth-year student from Kallakurichi District.

Tragically, after completing the marathon and returning to the college hostel, Dinesh Kumar experienced a seizure, leaving his friends and fellow participants shocked. In a swift response, they rushed him to the Madurai Government Hospital, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit.

However, despite the medical team’s best efforts, Dinesh Kumar’s condition deteriorated rapidly, and he suffered a heart attack, ultimately leading to his untimely demise. The Principal of Madurai Rajaji Hospital, where Dinesh was taken for treatment, confirmed that the student passed away due to a heart attack.

The news of the young student’s sudden demise has left the entire student community and participants of the marathon in grief and sadness.
