Maamannan of director Mari Selvaraj created enough buzz among the audience during its pre-release. The film which got released on Thursday, is being reviewed by those who watched in internet platforms. The film which features Kollywood comedy giant Vadivelu in a never-seen before avatar, failed to make an impact screenplay-wise as it lacks enough drama.

The film’s plot revolves around the titular character played by Vadivelu and his struggles find equality among the people who are divided due to various aspects including caste, money, religion. Udhayanithi Stalin played the role of Maamannan’s son in the film who is himself a victim of caste oppression during his childhood.

Fahadh Fazil played the role of Rathna Velu who is obsessed with his caste and goes to the maximum extent to dominate the people who belongs to scheduled caste. The Political drama’s later half relies on who wins the election among Rathna vel and Maamannan.

Similar to the previous ventures of the filmmaker, the film holds the semiotics of animals such as Dog, Pig etc. Ultimate motto of the film which is to spread equality among the people who watches the film is highly laudable and the filmmaker consciously worked on the casting and dialogues. The Interval block which reveals the real intentions and colour of the prominent characters of the film, is being widely celebrated by the audience.

A.R Rahman’s music also elevated the film and the Oscar winner also lent his voice for one of the songs in the film. However, the preachy tone of the film which lacked drama, failed to engage audience. Despite the powerful performances of the lead stars, “Maamannan” disappointed many in big time as it failed to provide a proper end for the fans to get hold of.
