Legendary Director KS Ravikumar who is known for his collaboration with Superstaractors such as Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth, Sarathkumar and others, in a recent interaction for a youtube channel, opened on how he struggled to complete “Lingaa” with the interference of Superstar Rajinikanth. KSR who gave Super hit films such as “Muthu”, “Padayappa” with Rajinikanth, said that few situation forces him to change his story, referring to the intervention of the actor.

“Lingaa” released on Superstar Rajinikanth’s birthday in the year 2014. It became the first collaboration with KSR and Superstar after “Padayappa”, a blockbuster film which still enjoys a separate fan base. However, Lingaa didn’t impress audience as expected and became a box office failure, according to reports.

Made on Rs. 100 crore budget, the film’s screenplay was criticized and the climax became a troll material among fans. With Superstar Rajinikanth playing dual roles, the film had Sonakshi Sinha and Anushka Shetty as female leads. With academy award winning musician A.R Raman composing music, the KSR directorial included an ensemble cast. In an interaction which took place 8 months ago, the filmmaker opened on how Rajinikanth interfered during the making and became a cause for the film’s flop.

“The climax of “Lingaa” was completely different, There was no balloon at all. During the making of ship song, we had a lot of time and sir (Rajinikanth) wantd to know about what we are doing in the editing. I said everything got completed as far as Lingeshwaran character is concerned and said that there were lot of scenes to be trimmed” KS Ravikumar sad in the interview.

“Sir asked us not to trim anything and I said a large portion must be trimmed as there are scenes for the youth character in the second half” Ravikumar further said. “Sir immediately said that the young character is not the hero but the Lingeshwaran character is” KSR added. Just let that character to save the dam and destroy the villain, Don’t spoil it” Rajinikanth told KS Ravikumar.

“Sir felt bad about trimming the portions of flash back Rajinikanth and we were forced to lessen the screen space for youth Rajini. People from Hyderabad came for discussion and my assistants were not at all happy. Previously, we had a different climax but we couldn’t make it” the filmmaker regretted.

“I was forced to do something and release the film as it was already announced that the film must release on the birthday of Rajinikanth sir. Somehow, I completed the film by having the shots that were available. I was in a pressure to release the film on sir’s birthday. At that time, I regretted for not being like Director Shankar. He would complete the film, watch the first copy of it, would go for reshoot if he doesn’t gets satisfied and would announce the release date only after initiating the release date” Ravikumar said.
