A staff member at a lodge in Kozhikode, identified as Abdul Muneer (35) from Chelambra Makadampally, was arrested by Tirur police for capturing private pictures of a couple whose marriage had been fixed. The young couple, hailing from Tirur, had booked a room in the lodge online, unaware of the sinister intentions of the front office staff.

The accused, Abdul Muneer, cunningly hid a camera inside a mosquito vaporizer in the lodge room, allowing him to secretly record the couple’s private moments. Taking advantage of this compromising footage, he sent a chilling WhatsApp message to the couple, threatening to circulate the images if they failed to pay him a sum of Rs 1,45,000.

Fearful and distraught, the couple quickly decided to report the extortion attempt to the police. Before filing a complaint, they tried to reason with the staff member and sent him Rs 2,000 as a first installment. However, the extortionist remained unrelenting, demanding the full amount and refusing to delete the intimate footage.

With the support of the Tirur police, the couple hatched a plan to catch Abdul Muneer in the act. They agreed to meet him with some artificial gold ornaments, pretending to have no other means to pay the ransom. During the arrest, the police confiscated Abdul Muneer’s laptop and the hidden camera, ensuring that the incriminating evidence was secured.
