Kollywood stunt master Kanal Kannan was arrested by the cyber crime police in Nagercoil on Monday night following a controversial tweet targeting “foreign religious culture.” The arrest came after a complaint was filed against him for posting a “manipulated video” of a preacher dancing with a girl. On June 18, Kanal shared the video on his Twitter handle, which depicted a Christian pastor dancing with a girl.

Along with the video, he captioned the post as, “This is the true state of foreign religious culture???!!!! Think converted Hindus!!!! Repent!!!” The video quickly went viral, leading to action being taken against the Kollywood actor. The Cyber Crime Wing police registered a case against Kanal on July 1 for allegedly posting derogatory remarks against Christianity. The case was filed based on a complaint by Austin Bennet, the deputy organizer of DMK IT wing from Thittuvilai.

Bennet stated that Kanal had shared a “manipulated video” of a preacher dancing with a girl, claiming it represented the culture of a foreign religion. News agency ANI confirmed the arrest through a tweet, stating, “Kollywood stunt master and actor Kanal Kannan arrested by cyber crime police in Nagercoil for sharing a video of a pastor dancing with a woman on social media: Tamil Nadu Police.” Kanal Kannan is a well-known figure in the Tamil film industry, having worked with several leading actors such as Rajinikanth and Vijay.

However, this is not the first time he has faced legal trouble. Last year, he was arrested for demanding the removal of the Periyar statue outside Srirangam Temple. Furthermore, Kanal Kannan is also the state president of the popular Hindu organization Hindu Munnani and leads its Art and Literature Wing. Hindu Munnani condemned his arrest and announced plans to hold a protest on July 11 at 4 PM, expressing their disagreement with the actions taken by the state police.
