On Friday evening, The Madras High court ordered Tamilnadu State Marketing Corporation to shut its outlets across the state. This order surfaced two days after allowing them to operate in non-containment zone. A special division bench of Justice Vineet Kothari and Justice Pushpa Sathyanarayana passed the interim order after noticing the blatant violation of social distancing norms imposed by the court to permit reopening of Tasmac shops from May 7. The Tasmac outlets in the state allegedly violated all the conditions imposed by the government, particularly strict implementation of social distancing in such shops.

The court passed the orders in a petition filed by AG Mourya, former IPS officer and by the president of Makkal Needhi Maiam Kamal Haasan. The actor turned politician wrote a long letter on Thursday, condemning the decision of Tamilnadu government to reopen the Tasmac shops. After receiving the judgement, Kamal Haasan took to twitter and said that this judgment from court has yet again proved that Truth will prevail.

“This judgement from court has provided the belief and proved that Truth will always win. People received the justice. This is not a victory of MNM alone but it belongs to the good thoughts of entire Tamilnadu. This victory belongs to the women of Tamilnadu” the actor said in his tweet.

Fans and many others wished the actor on his victory :

In his letter to the people of Tamilnadu, Kamal accused the ruling government for opening Tasmac and ruining the lives of poor and needy. He also accused the Tamilnadu people for exchanging their votes for money. He said that people of the state deserve such government for selling votes during election period. “Just to get their usual but illegal cut and to distract the suffering populace from asking embarrassing questions, our listless government has taken this decision.” his letter read. He also mocked the leaders of this government for calling themselves as mother’s government while the children of Tamil nadu are threatened with starvation.

Here’s the letter he released on Thursday :

On the opening day, hundreds of people thronged the Tasmac outlets in the state. According to reports, more than 20 lakh litres of alcohol was sold which is worth Rs.170 crores. However, people violated the norms of social distancing and were seen without precautions such as safety masks. The official press release of the Tamilnadu government on has stated that they took this decision as they couldn’t control the enormous number of people who crossed borders of other states to get liquor bottles on Monday
