A clip from a serial named “Peranbu” of Zee Tamil channel, became a subject to severe criticism among the online users due to the regressive dialogues it contained. Acclaimed singer and active Me Too activist Chinmayi shared the clip in her Twitter timeline and called out the misogynistic scene which shames a woman just for wearing a sleeveless.
Chinmayi, in her tweet, said that both the women in the clip are wearing sarees and it baffles her to see the dialogues which were provided to lead heroine. Sharing the same, many condemned the makers of the serial for delivering such content for the family audience.
In the clip which is available in the internet, shows two women traveling in a two wheeler. A group of boys in bikes harasses one of the women who was wearing a saree with sleeveless jacket. After she threatens them to call the police, the men leave the place out of the fear of getting caught by the police.
However, the woman who played the lead role in the serial, blames the attire of the other woman. She says that the woman’s sleeveless saree must be blamed and the boys approached her only because of her saree. “Our cloth should define our beauty but it shouldn’t be obscene. Even I was reluctant to come out with you due to your dress” the lead heroine says.
Throughout the clip, the woman who was wearing the sleeveless saree was portrayed as a bad and arrogant individual whereas the one who shames her was given a shade of the “good” person. She was seen repeatedly saying that the way the other one dressed was the only “wrong” in the entire scenario and didn’t say one word against the boys who harassed them.
