How many Crores spent to buy oscars ?. SS Rajamouli’s directorial ‘RRR’ won an Oscar for “Best Original Song” for “Naatu Naatu” at the 95th Academy Awards earlier this month. However, the film sparked controversy after it was revealed that SS Rajamouli spent Rs 80 crore on RRR’s campaigning.

The win for “Naatu Naatu” at the Oscars is a testament to the exceptional talent and hard work of the entire team behind RRR. The film has been praised for its grand scale, stunning visuals, and gripping storyline. The win for Best Original Song is also a significant achievement for the film’s music composer, M.M. Keeravani, who has been a prominent figure in the Indian music industry for over three decades.

However, the celebrations were marred by a controversial comment made by Jacqueline Fernandez’s close friend and makeup artist Shaan Muttathil. Shaan took to the comments section of a post announcing the win to mock the RRR filmmakers, alleging that they had “bought” the award just like in India. This remark was met with severe backlash from netizens, who criticized him for belittling a prestigious award ceremony like the Oscars.

Despite the controversy, SS Karthikeya, the son of SS Rajamouli, who was a vocal supporter of the ‘Naatu Naatu’ Oscar campaign, has finally spoken out about the rumours. Karthikeya defended the integrity of the Oscars, stating that thinking you can buy an Oscar by paying money is a big joke. He went on to say that the Oscars is a 95-year-old institution and everything has a procedure. You cannot buy the audience’s affection or what Steven Spielberg and James Cameron say about a film. Karthikeya emphasized that the fans’ participation in the campaign was instrumental, and he thanked them for their support.

According to Karthikeya, the original budget for the Oscar campaign was Rs. 5 crores. They intended to spend the budget in three stages, with the first stage costing between Rs. 2.5 crore and Rs 3 crore. The budget was increased after receiving the nominations, and they eventually spent Rs 8.5 crore, as per reports. Karthikeya also revealed that it was a heartbreaking moment for them when ‘RRR’ was denied an official Oscar nomination from India. He went on to say that if the film had been sent officially, its chances of winning an Oscar would have been better.

The controversy surrounding ‘RRR’s’ campaign spending raises concerns about the ethics of campaigning for awards. While it is common practice for filmmakers to campaign for awards, spending such a substantial amount on an Oscar campaign is unprecedented. The fact that ‘RRR’ won an Oscar for Best Original Song, which was not the film’s primary category, raises questions about the effectiveness of such a campaign. However, it is essential to note that the Oscar’s voting process is rigorous and involves various steps, including voting by members of the Academy in each category.

‘RRR’ is a landmark film, and its success has brought significant recognition to the Indian film industry. The film stars Ram Charan and Jr. NTR and was directed by Rajamouli. The cast and crew promoted the film in the US for several months, hosting screenings across the nation, making appearances on various American talk shows, and attending award shows.
