On the night of Friday, Facebook owned Messenger, Whatsapp and Instagram abruptly stopped working for over half an hour globally. The outage was first reported by the users of Twitter around 11 PM. Enormous number of people started reporting about the inconvenience they faced while using the messaging applications Whatsapp, Messenger and the photo/video posting social media app Instagram.

However, the issue was restored within minutes but the memes, reactions and trolls for the global outage didn’t. It is reported that services were restored around 11 : 42 Indian standard time. The official twitter account of Whatsapp came up with a tweet at 12 : 11 AM of Saturday, writing “Thanks for your patience, that was a long 45 minutes but we are back! #WhatsAppDown” whereas Instagram, at 12 : 38 AM posted a tweet saying “Some people were having issues with their Instagram accounts earlier, but we’re back now. Meanwhile Signal app which identifies itself as a better messaging app than Whatsapp with better user privacy and security, took a dig at Whatsapp downtime and wrote “Signal registrations are through the roof; welcome everyone! Solidarity to the folks working on the WhatsApp outage. People outside of the tech industry will never understand how weird it sounds when someone says that they are “looking forward to some weekend downtime.”

However, reactions that were surfaced for the tweets of Instagram and Whatsapp left the users of the micro blogging site in splits. “that 45min was decade for us” wrote a user whereas another one said “WHATEVER Instagram… seriously?! I was in the middle of a really funny and original reel where I lip sing a song super zoomed in on my flawless face and now I CANT post it… my fans will be DEVASTATED. There goes my weekend!!”
