In a disturbing video that is going viral in social media, a group of men were seen sexually assaulting a woman during a popular tribal festival that was taking place in Madhya Pradesh. The clip shows with the woman appearing to hide behind a vehicle when a man, passing by the spot, assaults her.

After getting rescued by a passerby who pulls the man away from her, the woman, after a few moments later, suffers again as another man forced himself on her. He continued to drag her towards a group of men where several of them are seen trying to grope her. In a same video, another woman was also seen getting assaulted by a man.

Several other men were seen capturing the disturbing incident but no one came forward to rescue the women. On Friday, the week long Bhagoria festival began in the districts of Alirajpur, Jhabua, Barwani and Khargone. The incident happened exactly in the tribal dominated Alirajpur district which is located around 392 km from Bhopal.

A senior police officer had said that action was taken based on a video of the incident that went viral on social media on Saturday night. On Sunday, Police arrested three accused, all tribal men and booked them under sections 354 (a) (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 34 (a) (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian penal code, the officer said.

Manoj Kumar, Alirajpur superintendent of police said “After the video went viral, we took suo moto action. The victim has not come forward to file a complaint. On the basis of the video, we identified the men who sexually assaulted the woman. We have nabbed three of them while five others, who were shooting video ans instigating the accused, are absconding. Police teams are trying to nab them”

Recent reported of India Today said that 15 men were arrested based on the viral video. The Police have said that all the accused are aged between 19 and 25. A huge outrage had took place across the state after the video went viral. Many Politicians including the party of opposition Congress blamed BJP party for the heinous crime committed by men. Congress said that the incident reflects the state of affairs of law and order in the state even as attempts were made to deflect from the issue by referring to customs of the Bhagoria festival.
