Director Gautham Vasudev Menon, in a recent interaction with his fellow actors for Film companion South youtube channel, opened on acting in several a films at a time. The reputed filmmaker said that there is a talk among public saying he is acting in so many films just because he doesn’t have enough money. Denying it completely, Gautham menon said that he never wanted to act and it happened after thought “why not”.

Being a filmmaker, Gautham menon inspired many youngsters through his films. He who started acting in films since Vijay Milton’s Goli Soda, has impressed audience in big time through Desing Periyasamy’s “Kannum Kannum Kollayadithaal”. GVM who acted as cop, stole the show with his unique mannerism and the way he delivered dialogues.

After “Kannum Kannum”, Gautham went on to sign several other films as an actor. Trance, Oh My Kadavule, Rudra Thandavam, 3 : 33, Paava Kathaigal are some of the many films Gautham made his appearance as an actor. “Selfie”, “FIR” and many other films are gearing up for release as well. In the meantime, Gautham is also busy directing films such as “Venthu Thaninthathu Kaadu”, “Joshua” and “Dhruva Nakshathiram”.

Now, in the “Actors roundtable show” hosted by Baradwaj Rangan in Film companion South, Gautham menon opened on acting in several films at this time. “I think people think that I am financially down and they are talking like that I don’t have enough money because of which I am doing so many films. It’s not that at all. I never wanted to act” Gautham said in the interview.

“I have always been in my films like how Hitchcock used to be in his films. It’s more like me appearing in that film as a celebration. Other than that, I never wanted to act. And then, somewhere suddenly, it’s not the bug, it’s just that I thought why not” Gautham said in the interview.

“Sometimes, it’s very difficult to ask a few people and then they say “no”. So I would do such roles myself. “Paava Kadhaigal” was one such. Somebody else was supposed to do that” he revealed. The filmmaker also said that he accepts projects just to see ow particular filmmakers work. He said that he accepted to act for Vetri Maaran, Anwar Rasheed just to be in the environment of their film sets.

“If Mani sir call me, I would rather just be there even if it’s just one small role just to figure out what kind of work is going on. Big money is not coming in as yet. But I enjoy that” said Gautham menon who also talked about the problems he faced while acting for the films of other directors.
