G.V Prakash , renowned music director who is also known as an actor in the Kollywood film industry, came up with a tweet in his official twitter handle, reacting to the recent sensational incident that took place inside the Rohini Silver Screen, a famous theatre in the city of Chennai. The music director, in his tweet, said that it is unacceptable to restrict children and went on to add that art is for everyone.

On March 30, two highly anticipated movies hit the screens in India: Silambarasan’s Pathu Thala and Nani’s Dasara. Fans eagerly gathered at theaters across the country to catch the first-day first show (FDFS) of their favorite stars. One such theater was the famous Rohini Theater in Chennai, which is known for hosting special early morning shows for leading stars.

However, the theater management found themselves in hot water when they refused to allow a tribal family inside the hall, despite having bought tickets for the show. The family belonged to the Narikurava tribe, and the incident sparked outrage among citizens who were present at the theater.

A video shows citizens asking the theater employee about the family being denied entry into the hall. The theater management’s refusal to allow the family to watch the movie caused a commotion among the audience, and they demanded an explanation.

Composer GV Prakash expressed his disappointment over the incident on Twitter. He said that it was unacceptable that the family was not allowed inside the hall in the first place. He added that art belongs to everyone, and no one should be discriminated against based on their background or ethnicity.

In their statement, the management claimed that the movie had been certified U/A (unrestricted public exhibition – but with parental guidance) by the authorities. They said that children below the age of 12 could not be permitted to watch any movie that is certified U/A as per the law. They claimed that the family had come with children aged 26, 8, and 10, and their ticket checking staff had denied them entry on this basis.

However, many people found the explanation unconvincing. They pointed out that the age of the children mentioned in the statement did not add up. They also accused the theater management of discrimination against the tribal family.

The management’s statement added that the family was eventually allowed inside the hall to watch the movie. They claimed that they did so to avoid any law and order problem and to desensitize the matter.

The incident highlights the issue of discrimination against marginalized communities in India. The Narikurava tribe is one of the most vulnerable and marginalized communities in the country. They are often discriminated against and face social and economic exclusion.

The incident also highlights the need for greater awareness and sensitivity among the public, especially those who work in the entertainment industry. Discrimination against any community, be it based on ethnicity, race, or caste, has no place in a democratic and inclusive society.

The incident at Rohini Theater is a reminder that there is still much work to be done to ensure that everyone is treated with dignity and respect. The theater management’s behavior has been widely criticized, and the incident should serve as a wake-up call to all those who work in the entertainment industry to be more aware and sensitive to issues of discrimination and exclusion. Art truly belongs to everyone, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that everyone has equal access to it.
