Music composer and actor G.V Prakash recently took to social media to express his profound sadness over a heart-wrenching incident in Nanguneri, where a young student fell victim to a gruesome caste-based crime. The incident has sparked outrage and conversations about the pressing need to address the deep-seated issue of caste discrimination in society.
In the picturesque town of Nanguneri, nestled in the Tirunelveli district, tragedy struck as a Plus 2 student named Chinnadurai was brutally beheaded by caste fanatics wielding a sickle. The victim’s father, Muniandi, a laborer, hails from the same region and has been struggling to provide education for his two children—a 17-year-old son and a 14-year-old daughter.

The tragic event was the culmination of a disturbing chain of events. Chinnadurai had been absent from school for a week due to an altercation with his fellow students. Concerned about his prolonged absence, the school authorities contacted the family, urging them to send Chinnadurai back to school. Despite the intervention, Chinnadurai’s return was marked by a horrifying encounter with his peers, leading to a ghastly attack in the sanctity of his own home.

Around 10:30 pm, a trio of assailants barged into the family’s residence and attacked Chinnadurai with a sickle, leaving him severely injured. His courageous younger sister, who tried to intervene and stop the brutal assault, was also tragically injured in the process. The immediate neighbors, alerted by the commotion, rushed to the scene, rescuing the siblings and promptly admitting them to a nearby hospital. Presently, Chinnadurai remains under intensive medical care, struggling to recover from the traumatic incident.
