On Tuesday, The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-corruption raided 60 premises linked to former minister and AIADMK leader SP Velumani and his associates in Chennai, Coimbatore and other places. The raid took place, a month after the raids on former minister MR Vijayabaskar. With the news grabbing the headlines, a social media user uploaded a fake tweet alleging that another ADMK leader Ma. Foi. K Pandiyarajan’s statement against governments and its raids on ADMK ministers. On seeing the tweet, the former minister himself came up with a reply clearing the air. The tweet garnered huge attention with many making fun of the scenario.
It is reported that Velumani has abused his official position and he was accused of showing favouritism in awarding tenders in the Greater Chennai and Coimbatore corporations to the tune of Rs.. 811 crore between 2014 and 2018. The DVAC said that cash worth Rs 13.08 lakh, land registration documents, business transaction documents, fixed deposits to the tune of Rs 2 crore, corporation records, hard discs, and other incriminating documents were found and seized while raiding the premises of Velumani.
The DVC registered an FIR and conducted the raid based on it against Velumani, his brother P. Anbarasan and 15 others including a few companies associated with the former minister. DMK MP RS Bharathi and Arappor Iyakkam convenor V Jayaraman made a complaint and the FIR was registered based on the same.
While the news was making headlines across the news portals of state Tamil nadu with trending in Twitter, a online user named Velur Saravanan whose Twitter bio said that he belongs to Dravidian Stock, uploaded a tweet sarcastically saying that another former minister of ADMK Ma. Foi.K Pandiyarajan has challenged the government to raid him. “The government could threaten people like Velumani by conducting raids. But they can’t take actions against me – former minister Ma. Foi. K. Pandiarajan” read the tweet of the online user.
