Cinematographer cum Filmmaker/Actor Thankar Bschan who is known for directing films such as “Solla Marantha Kadhai”, “Azhagi”, “Pallikoodam”, “Ammavin Kaipesi” caught into controversy for making a comment on Jallikattu winner getting a luxurious car as prize. The filmmaker wanted the government to give gifts that helps the winner to improve his lifestyle by investing them in agriculture and other things that are related to farming. He said that the winner will be struggling in his entire life spending money for petrol and diesel and believed that it wouldn’t help him in any way.
The opinion made by the filmmaker caused controversy in social media platforms as many questioned whether he bought agricultural products such as paddy, rice as salary for directing films. Few even said that Thangar Bachan should have bought Cameras and other filmmaking products as salary for directing films.
Karthik of Karuppayurani emerged victorious by taming 21 bulls and won the first prize. A car was presented as a gift to the 21 year old on behalf of Chepaul legislator Udhayanithi Stalin. Commenting on the same, director Thangar Bachan released a press note, suggesting Tamil nadu government to reconsider their decision on gifting cars to the winners of “Jallikattu”.
“I have made a similar request to government last year when they gifted a car to “Jallikattu” winners. Now, I came to know that Chief minister has gifted a car to the winners of the sport again. Every Tamil speaking individual is feeling proud and happy about conducting “Jallikattu”. Government should start thinking about the prizes they are providing to the winners at least now” the filmmaker said.
“Government should think about whether the lifestyle of previous winners who got car as prize has improved or not. Equal to what they are spending to a car, Government should gift instruments that are related to farming, cows and lands which will help them to improve their lifestyle. It would make us all ever more happier. The “Jallikattu” winners will be struggling their entire life for the fuel of the car due to the surging hike in the price of petrol and diesel. I request Chief minister to consider this request and act accordingly” Thangar Bachan said in his press note.
