C Vijayakumar, a 2009 batch IPS officer, had a commendable career marked by his dedication and commitment to the police force. He served in various key positions, including superintendent of police in Kancheepuram, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, and Tiruvarur districts. Later, he took on the role of deputy commissioner of police in Chennai’s Anna Nagar before being promoted as the Deputy Inspector General and assuming charge of Coimbatore range on January 6, 2023.

On the fateful morning of the incident, Vijayakumar arrived at his camp office after an early morning walk. Distressingly, he requested his personal security officer to hand over his pistol before stepping out of the office. The reason for his tragic decision remains unclear, although Vijayakumar had reportedly confided in his colleagues about experiencing sleep disturbances and severe depression in recent weeks.
